A business website with a search result and a map listing pointing back to it
    On this page

A client who needs a lawyer, an accountant or a physiotherapist rarely types your name. They type what they need and the town they are in, then choose from the handful of offices Google shows on the map. If yours is not one of them, the call goes somewhere else, whatever your reputation.

What Google looks at before showing an office

Google's own help pages name three things for local results: how relevant a listing is to the search, how far it is from the person searching, and how prominent the business is. You cannot move your office, but you control most of the rest.

Claim and complete your Google Business Profile

The profile is free. Claim it, then fill in every field a client checks before calling:

    • The exact category of your practice, not a broad one
    • Opening hours, including holidays
    • Your phone number and a link to your website
    • The services you offer, in the words your clients use
    • Real photos of the office and the team

An unclaimed or half-filled profile is the most common reason a good practice is missing from the map.

Give the profile a website that answers the first question

Most people tap through to the website before they call. If the page is slow, out of date, or makes them hunt for the phone number, they go back to the map and try the next office. A good page says what you do, for whom, where you are and how to book, on the first screen. It also carries your details in the structured format search engines and AI assistants read, so they describe you correctly.

Ask for reviews, and answer them

Reviews count toward prominence, and they are what people read last before choosing. Ask satisfied clients at the end of a case or an appointment, make it a single link, and answer every review, the critical ones included, calmly and briefly.

    What nobody can promise you

Nobody can guarantee a position on Google, and anyone who does is guessing. What you can do is remove every reason for Google, and for the client, to skip you: a complete profile, a clear website, honest reviews. It is also what AI assistants draw on when someone asks them for a recommendation.

If you would rather have this set up for you, a showcase website with the Google profile linked at launch is exactly what we build, in your name.

    Questions

Does a Google Business Profile cost anything?

No. Creating and running a profile is free; Google only asks you to verify that you run the business.

Do I need a website if I have a Google profile?

The profile gets you seen on the map; the website is where clients decide to call. Without one, they judge you on a few lines of text and whatever photos you uploaded.
